sherydenThis was done for the Stargate Continued project over at stargateland. We were to create and cast an addition to the Stargate franchise. Any guesses who I picked for one of the main stars, lol?
Title: Stargate: Liberation
Synopsis:
For years, Phoenix Base has been of little military importance and has existed primarily to house research scientists who sing the praises of the planet’s unique properties and plant life. Located on the planet dubbed by the people of Earth as “Phoenix,” the base is known jokingly to the members of the Stargate Program as The Black Hole, as it has long been a dead end and dreaded assignment for most military officers who have any ambitions of moving up the ranks.
Changes in the Milky Way galaxy, however, are about to move Phoenix and the base that shares its name into a position of strategic importance. The power vacuum that has existed since the defeat of the Goa’uld has produced a number of challengers hoping to replace the powerful System Lords. Thus far, the most organized and lasting effort has been the Lucian Alliance, an increasingly sharp thorn in the side of the SGC. When the Lucian Alliance begins to base a number of important operations in the vicinity, the members of Phoenix base become the direct line of defense and intelligence against the Alliance.
Main Cast:
Colonel Garret Cortland (Mark Harmon) – Garret is an old friend of General Jack O’Neill. He served for several years at Stargate Command, leading his own team through the gate. During the conflict with the Ori, however, Garret and his men were ambushed by Ori soldiers. He was the only survivor, and the trauma of losing his entire team has left deep emotional scars. After returning to duty, he was transferred to Phoenix so he could have a relatively quiet command until he was ready to retire. When the Lucian Alliance started to set up operations nearby, however, Garret finds himself commanding a base of strategic importance filled group misfits he doesn’t quite trust but is growing to care about.
Cooper "Coop" Nolan (Christian Kane) – To most of the world, Coop is a former Air Force officer who escaped a court-martial by agreeing to voluntarily leave the military. Unbeknownst to most people, Coop’s legal troubles are part of a cover story concocted by higher-ups in the Stargate Program. For well over a year, Coop has been in deep cover within the Lucian Alliance, attempting to learn as much about their organization as possible. As an undercover operative, he witnesses the challenges faced by everyday people all over the galaxy, and he is often forced to participate in unsavory activities to win the loyalty of his new allies. Coop struggles between his duty and the temptations offered to him as a member of the Alliance. The only person on Phoenix who knows of the true nature of his work with the Alliance is Garret Cortland, who suspects that Coop may be swayed to the betray his own planet.
Captain Reese Martin (Jensen Ackles) – Reese is a talented but troubled military officer who was passed up for promotion after making a series of bad decisions. Just when his career was about to implode, General Jack O’Neill took mercy on him, and deciding he was worth saving, transferred him to Phoenix. Soon after he arrives on base, Reese discovers that his old friend Coop Nolan is not only a member of the Lucian Alliance but is based in the area surrounding Phoenix. Reese is conflicted between a desire to find a way to reach out to Coop and convince him to leave the Alliance and the impulse to protect and possibly even help him in his endeavors.
Megan “Meg” Sharp (Elizabeth Mitchell) – Meg is the leading scientist on Phoenix base. Like a lot of people on Phoenix, Meg is running from her past. Recently divorced, she picked up her life and moved as far away from Earth as she could get, desperate to start over somewhere wild and untamed. She is as comfortable in a poker game with beer-drinking Marines as she is in a lab. She struggles to balance her commitment to scientific with her love of adventure and her passionate interest in the welfare of the people living on Phoenix. She has very little patience for bureaucracy and often finds herself at odds with the IOA’s on-base representative.
Raya (Piper Perabo) – Raya is an ambitious member of the Lucian Alliance. She lost her entire family to the Goa’uld and harbors resentment toward the Tau’ri for doing nothing to save them. Now that she is older, she is rising through the ranks of the Lucian Alliance and is determined to not only carve out a powerful piece of the action for herself, but also to gain revenge of the people of Earth for what she sees as their part in her family’s demise. Despite her best efforts to keep him at a distance, she finds herself falling in love with fellow Alliance member Coop Nolan.
Also Starring:
Maeve (Zoe Saldana) – Maeve is a young villager who grew up on Phoenix. After she is got caught in the middle of a turf war in her village, she was rescued by Coop and Raya and soon thereafter, became a member of the Lucian Alliance.
Father Nicholas “Nick” Donnelly (Misha Collins) – Nick is an unconventional Air Force chaplain who often finds himself dispensing offbeat advice to the crew of Phoenix base, not to mention getting into a bit of trouble himself now and then.
James Morales (Nestor Carbonell) – James is the liaison between Phoenix and the IOA. He doesn’t know who he ticked off to get stuck at with what he considers to be a dead-end assignment, but he’s determined to make the best of it.
Lieutenant Max Critchlow (Garret Hedlund) – Garret is an Everyman officer who loves his job and heads into missions with gusto. He is a member of Reese Martin’s exploration team.
Doctor Ben McNamara (Steven Culp) – Ben is the base’s chief medical officer. A practical joker by nature, he can also be deadly serious when lives are on the line.
