Casablanca should never be remade. What a lot of people--like Madonna, with her hair-brained scheme to remake it and set it in Iraq--don't understand, is that Casablanca is a time-specific piece that was approved by the Office of War Information during World War II as a film that supported the war effort. To remake it is to not understand the significance of the film. A remake would have no impact now, because the purpose of the film would be lost.
