Merlin fandom and request for Merlin fic recs

I haven't joined an LJ comm (other than fic and icon comms) for the show, because I've had bad experiences with discussion comms for Doctor Who and Torchwood. But I do lurk on some message boards, and I've noticed a couple of things about the fandom that irritate me:

1. The constant bashing of Angel Coulby's race and looks on some sites

2. The borderline homophobia heaped on anyone who ships Merlin and Arthur on some sites

Are these "delightful" little idiosyncrasies present on the Merlin LJ comms? If so, which ones should I avoid? Are there any good comms out there for the show?

Also, I'm finding it nearly impossible to find fic I like. Does anyone have recs for Merlin/Arthur fics? They can be friendship, pre-slash, or slash. Please... NO fics that take place in modern times or that have someone dealing with an eating disorder.

I'd love to find a good angst fic where Arthur finds out about Merlin's abilities.
