How Joss Whedon has ruined me

There's this amazing song called "The Long Black Veil." It's been done by everyone from the Band to David Gray to Johnny Cash. It's the story of a man that allows himself to be killed for a murder he didn't commit in order to protect the woman he's having an affair with. It's beautiful.
Well, it goes like this:
Ten years ago on a cold dark night,
someone was killed 'neath the town hall lights.
There were few at the scene, but they all agreed,
that the slayer who ran looked a lot like me.
Every time I hear this beautiful song, and I hear that last line... I picture Buffy running away from the scene of a crime. :/
