Okay, here's a quickie review of
Major Teldy's Team: I'm neither here nor there as far as Major Teldy herself goes--to be honest, I figured they were going to kill her off--but I rather like Dusty and Alison. Dusty is the kind of character we really didn't have before--a gung ho, slightly crass soldier who's pretty much just there to kick ass. Teldy is just...meh. Of course, there's only one Major for me in this show. ;) As long Lorne keeps getting lots of screen time, and he doesn't get killed off, I'm more than happy to welcome her to the fold, though. As for Vega, I wasn't too surprised by her death, nor was a I particularly concerned about it. She really didn't have a definable personality.
Carson and John: You just know Sheppard wanted to go on the mission so he could look after Carson personally. The little "stasis pod bonding" conversation was rather adorable, and I enjoyed the chance to see Sheppard really interact with Carson. That said, the episode also made me realize how much I miss having Carson there on a regular basis. How many more is he supposed to be in this season?
Potential Ships: Well, you all know me well enough to know that I can ship Lorne with every one of these women. In fact, if they paired Teldy off with Lorne, I might decide to like her. :D Carson/Alison is cute, though a bit predictable, and I have to admit I found myself shipping Dusty and Alison in my head. It's been a long time since I had a real femmeslash couple, so this could be interesting.
A Minor Irritation: I'm a woman myself, and I'm usually one of the first ones to go batshit crazy when women are overlooked or misrepresented, so I can say this. *nods* It kind of irritates me that the new female characters--the four from today and Amelia Banks--all have first and last names, but we have yet to hear Lorne's first name on screen, and Chuck doesn't even have a last name. We even got backstory for Alison already. How long did we have to wait for minor character information on Lorne and Zelenka? Unfair, people. I've loved the long-term recurring characters for a long time, and I want to see backstory on them before I see it on the newbies. I feel like the writers trying to "make up" for not having some sort of reasonable gender division before, but they're doing nothing to develop characters who have been around for years, and that is a fail. I'm sure I'll piss someone off by saying this, but it's how I feel.
Also, I kind of took issue with the fact that the all-female composition of Teldy's team would be an issue for Sheppard. First of all, I find it weird that he didn't know. Teldy is one of his officers. But either way, I can't see him making a big deal out of it. Yes, writers. We get it. Equality, strong women, and fluffy bunnies. Now stop.
Overall: Good episode, lots of creepiness. Great to see Carson in action again.
