Okay, this isn't exactly new news, but it's been chafing me for a while, and I'm pissed at the drivers I encountered while out just now, so I'll funnel that rage through Stargate: Atlantis. Here's a link to an article that talks about correcting the "gender imbalance" on the show by introducing female counterparts to characters like Chuck and Lorne.

That's all well and good, and I'm all for having strong women on the show. BUT we're talking about writers who can barely make good use of the characters they have. Now they're bringing in more? Yes, I know Joe M said the introduction of new characters does not mean less screen time for characters like Lorne or Teyla, but he also said the Carson they brought back in "Kindred" would be the real deal. :|

The only thing of substance Joe M seems to yammer on about in his blog is "Whispers," the ep that introduces the new female team. Ugh. The way he's building these chicks up, I'm more than a little concerned about how much time and backstory we're going to get on the characters old or new. Either someone who already exists will get less screen time or solid use, or the new people will get very little screen time or solid use. It just seems like too much.

I will be really unhappy if Lorne, Zelenka, or Chuck or downgraded or written out. I was hoping for more backstory on them, not less screen time.

And for crying out loud, Teyla is a main cast member, and I wasn't satisfied with the amount of screen time she got in the last two seasons. And yes, I know she was pregnant for part of that, but it doesn't excuse the previous season.

On a shallow note, I think I'd like to ship Chuck with Banks (the female tech in the picture). Mmm...

Oh, if they were so worried about gender imbalance, why the hell did the write out Weir?
