Stardust and a Other Movies (No Spoilers)
Sep. 8th, 2007 03:02 pmI went to see Stardust today. I actually intended on going to Hairspray, but when I got to the theater, I couldn't see any time listings. Stardust was about to start, so I just went with that. I am SO glad I did. It's marvelous. There are some silly parts (mostly involving a goat), of course, but overall, it's a great little fantasy.
In the previews, they showed teasers for The Dark is Rising, Elizabeth: The Golden Years, August Rush, and Beowulf. I'm kind of biting my nails about The Dark is Rising. I have fond memories of reading that series, and I can imagine how they might screw it up. That said, I'll probably be there on opening day, just because.
Elizabeth: The Golden Years stars Cate Blanchett and Clive Owen. What more do you need to know. :p
August Rush looks fantastic. I could be a bit maudlin, but with Jonathan Rhys Meyers involved, I'm pretty sure I can forgive maudlin.
Now Beowulf is a disaster waiting to happen. It stars Angelina Jolie and Anthony Hopkins, and it smacks of All! Star! Cast! to try and couch the fact that it's a weak interpretation of a literary epic. Dang. I had such high hopes for this.
At least we still have my beloved Daniel Craig and The Golden Compass. I refuse to believe it's be anything but brilliant with DC involved.
