These Guys Didn't See Brokeback Mountain, I Guess
The conservative protesters were back at my university again today. Le sigh. I'm a Christian, and it ticks me off to be at least partially defined by the actions of bigoted jerks like them. We are not all intolerant and narrow-minded.
Well, these intolerant, narrow-minded jerks are part of the same group that came last semester. They weren't quite as noxious this time around, but they were still pretty bad. At least they seem to have left the anti-female psychopath (the guy that called one of the students a whore) home this year. And they left the door-sized picture of a mangled fetus home this year too, thank God.
Still, though, they paraded their bigotry around the Union courtyard, and drew quite a crowd. They had a sign that picked on Muslims, "homos and lesbos" (their term), Roman Catholics, unsubmissive wives, etc. During the protest, one of the students asked the main speaker what he would do if he discovered one of his children was gay. He hedged for a while and finally, he said that his son wasn't born with a penis in his rear, so he wasn't gay. WFT?!?!
Not to be outdone, some of the students from the LGBT resource center were genially passing out advertisements for an anti-homophobia project. :)
