Most of the people on my flist aren't comic fans, but I am, so I'm going to talk about them anyway. :p

I picked up a few things, but the only book I was impressed with the Civil War #1. The basic premise: a group of novice superheroes, the New Warriors, are filming an episode of their reality show and decide to take on a threat way out of their leagues. This ends in and explosion outside of a school, which leads to the deaths of around 900 kids and most of the New Warriors.

Meanwhile, one of my favorite characters, the Human Torch, is blindsided outside of a club by a bunch of guys who are looking for a hero to punish for the aforementioned tragedy. He gets knocked out and serverely beaten. (!!!!!)

The explosion and the ensuing anti-hero violence sets the stage for the government to push for a bill that would call for the registration of all superheroes. Basically, they would become government cops. Some of the heroes are opposed to this, while others agree that it's a valid solution.

One of the heroes that opposes government intrusion is Captain America. He throws down with a bunch of SHIELD agents (government bad asses), and goes underground.

At the end of the first issue, Cap is now a symbolic leader for the anti-registration side, and his fellow hero, Iron Man, has pledge to bring him in.
