Summary: Steve is a little jealous over Chris's enthusiasm over working with John Schneider. Chris thinks it's hysterically funny.
Notes: Written for [profile] kissbingo for the prompt "emotion: laugher." Based off of the many interviews Chris has done where he fanboys (adorably so) over John Schneider.

When he and Steve walked through the front door, Chris leaned back against the wall and watched as his friend and lover toed off his shoes and sank into a chair. They didn’t get to see each other nearly enough, so whenever Steve made a visit to Portland, Chris tried to soak up every moment he could. A chunk of their day, though, had been spent running errands and heading to a radio station way too early in the morning so Chris could do an interview about his music and of course, about Leverage. It was only late afternoon, but Chris was bone-tired and ready to grab a sandwich, collapse on the couch, and hug on Steve.

He tossed his car keys onto the coffee table and plunked down on the arm of the chair Steve was occupying. “Long day, huh?”

“Lot of running,” Steve muttered. He shifted in his chair, averting his eyes away from Chris’s gaze.

“You all right?” Chris asked. He patted Steve on the forearm. “Want to watch a DVD or something?”

“Whatever.”

Chris frowned. “What are you upset about?”

“I’m not upset,” Steve said. “I’m annoyed. There’s a difference.”

“Okay,” Chris said. “What are you annoyed about? I know I had to run some errands, but—”

Sitting up a little straighter, Steve plastered what Chris recognized as a completely fake smile on his face and said, “Listen, man. I’m sorry. I’m just in a mood. Put in a DVD.”

“I don’t get to see you that often,” Chris said. “I don’t want you sitting here pissed off at me.”

“I’m not pissed,” Steve said.

“Then what’s wrong?”

Steve turned to face Chris, his cheeks a bit red. “All right,” he said, biting his lip. “It was just that interview.”

“The interview? It didn’t take that damn long. I mean, it was already scheduled. I couldn’t get out of it.”

“No,” Steve said, shaking his head. “It’s just… it’s the John Schneider thing.”

“What are you talking about?”

Steve took a breath. “I have heard about a million freaking times how wonderful and amazing and talented John Schneider is. I can’t take it anymore.”

After a few seconds of stunned silence, Chris threw back his head and burst out laughing. Smacking Steve on the shoulder, he said, “Seriously, man? You’re jealous of Bo Duke?”

“First of all, his name isn’t Bo Duke,” Steve said. “And I’m not jealous.”

“Yeah, I know. You’re annoyed,” Chris said, chuckling softly. “There’s a difference.”

“Smart ass.” Steve mock-punched Chris on the shoulder. “But seriously, you fanboy every time you talk about him?”

“Well, I’m his fan, man. What am I supposed to say?”

“It’s just a little over-the-top,” Steve said, running his fingers through his hair. “Every time his name comes up, you drone on about his number one hits and about how he sang your song and about how his character beat your character up.”

Chris gave Steve’s shoulder a squeeze. “I can’t believe this is getting to you,” he said with a grin. “I’m his fan, man. We did an episode together. It’s nothing. And yeah, the cat’s talented, and—”

Steve stood up. “You know what? I’m gonna make some sandwiches.”

With a smile, Chris followed Steve into the kitchen. “Just admit you’re jealous,” he said.

“I’m not jealous,” Steve said, wrenching open the refrigerator. “But you know what? When you talk about the great John Schneider? You sound like a twelve-year-old with a crush.”

“Well, I do like blondes.”

Steve scowled at him. “Cute.”

Chris leaned against the kitchen counter. “Cut the crap,” he said. “You’re jealous. Which is dumb, because John’s a great guy. He treated me like we’d known each other for years. You know we’re playing golf?”

Steve turned to face Chris, who was grinning mischievously. “Yeah, now you’re doing it on purpose.”

“I’m sorry,” Chris said, not bothering to his mirth. “I’m just having some fun with you. I’ll be good.”

Shaking his head, Steve pulled some meat, cheese, and veggies out of the fridge and made a couple sandwiches for their lunch. After he’d finished, he walked over to the counter where Chris was standing and sat the plate in between them. “Eat up,” he said.

They ate and chatted for a while, then pushed the empty plate aside and fell into a comfortable silence. After a few moments of quiet, Steve inched a little closer to Chris and ran his thumb along Chris’s jaw. Lost in the moment, he leaned forward to kiss Chris.

As soon as their lips touched, though, Chris erupted into laughter. He grabbed Steve’s face with both hands and planted a wet, sloppy, and affectionate kiss on his mouth. Then leaned forward, hands on his knees, shoulders convulsing in laughter.

Steve reached down and swatted Chris on the backside. “Stop laughing.” He was trying to keep up the appearance of being pissed off, but Chris could tell his annoyance was giving way to amusement.

“I know I’m being stupid,” Steve said, laughing softly at himself. “I don’t know. I just can’t help it.”

Chris folded his arms across his chest “I think this is the first time you’ve really been jealous,” he said.

“Maybe,” Steve said, his lips curving into a smile.

“I kind of like it when you’re just a little jealous,” Chris said. “As long as you know you have nothing to worry about.”

“Yeah, I know. You just get so excited when you talk about him. I don’t know why it bothers me.”

“Look,” Chris said. If it makes you feel any better, the first time I brought you to meet Tim and Beth and them? For like a solid week, I told ‘em all about you. I thought they were gonna kill me if I didn’t shut up.”

Nodding his head in approval, Steve said, “You’re scoring some points right now.”

Chris looped his arm around Steve’s shoulder. “Look, I’m not gonna lie,” he said. “I had a crush on John when I was a kid. But man, it was just a crush. And yeah, I was excited I got to meet him. But you’re the one I fell for, and I don’t want anybody but you.”

“Epic brownie points,” Steve said. He leaned in to kiss Chris again, but this time, there was no laughter, just the feel of Chris’s lips curving into a satisfied smile.

When they pulled apart, Chris cocked his head at Steve. “So, “he said. “You had crushes when you were a kid, right?”

“Me?” Steve said. “I always went for the cowboys.”

With a soft chuckle, Chris kissed Steve on the cheek. “Good answer,” he said.
