Supernatural-Spoilers for Scarecrow

First of all, scarecrows creep me out. When I was in the second grade, I was recruited to be a munchkin in a high school production of The Wizard of Oz. I was like, seven years old, and I wasn't given a lot of details on what was actually supposed to transpire in this play I was in. So, they stood me next to the guy who was playing the Scarecrow, and I went about my business. Then, without warning, the freaking Scarecrow moved!! I about jumped out of my skin.

So yeah. Scarecrows scare me a bit.

Anyway, this episode reminded me why I love this show. Besides the scarecrow creep-out factor (which was terrific), this episode showcased the deepening relationship between the two brothers.

Jensen Ackles nails Dean's blind faith in his father and dedication to his job and family so well. Let's face it. Dean is a character who, at his worst, can be abrasive, stubborn, and obtuse. But at his best, he demonstrates an unwavering and selfless dedication to protecting innocents, a deep love and respect for Sam, and a vulnerability that he does he best to cover up. When Sam decides to pack up and leave, it not only angers Dean, but hurts him to his core.

We all knew Sam would come back to Dean in the end. But that wasn't the point. This episode marked a turning point in Dean's relationship with Sam.He doesn't just see Sam as a fellow soldier in the cause. Rather, he respects Sam's right to live his own life and even envies his resolve. When he told Sam he was proud of him, I thought I was going to cry.

And they talked to Dad!
