A real life update sort of thing

* The school still hasn't taken care of the tuition for my summer class yet, which makes me nervous. I don't want to have to jump through more hoops. I want to concentrate on doing my work.

* Speaking of work, I have actual homework now. I've done independent studies before, and they work for me, partially because I'm self-motivated. I'm reading all manner of ancient, medieval, and Renaissance texts. Some I've already read at least part of, but others are new to me. It should be fun, because I love that sort of thing. I've picked my own books, and I may post a book list at some point.

* I'm going to Canal Days with Kelley, Jessica, and Kelly this evening. Jessica and Seth are coming to get me, because I have a tendency to get lost. I need some fair food.

* It is entirely too hot in my apartment, but I'm trying to conserve electricity. I'm going to run to the school in a few minutes anyway, but still. It's an oven.

* I'm going to need to come up with a PhD topic--at least a general embryo of an idea--soon. I'll have to start the PhD application process in a few months. I'm so not looking forward to it. I went through this with my Master's, and it's a lot of stress. One of my big decisions is whether or not to leave Ohio. There are a couple of schools in the Virgina/DC/Maryland area I'm interested in, but do I want to move again? There are also a couple of schools further away that interest me, but being that far away from my family on a grad student's salary? I don't know. Getting home from Wisconsin was a bitch. I've pretty much ruled out any of the fancy Ivy League schools (well, there's one I might still apply to), because I think I'm too nonconformist to fit in there. One of my former advisers turned down Princeton after she visited the campus and decided the school was too...you know. Apologies to any Ivy Leaguers on my list. Those are just my impressions. Feel free to convince me otherwise.

* Has Eureka started its new season yet? I was wanting to check it out.
