Author’s Notes: I wrote this in response to a five-minute challenge on a Yahoo group for Major Hayes and the other MACOS years ago and just found it while I was looking through my hard drive for something else. I don't think I've ever posted it here. Apologies for the melodrama.

Why is it my computer always seems to want to update and restart when I'm doing something important? It's like it's a child who jumps around for attention the minute I get busy. Grr.

Right, so I'm meeting some friends tomorrow so we can talk about our fiction. I have some stuff I'd like to send out this week, and I have some new stuff I'm trying to tweak. But you remember when my computer went 'splodey earlier this year? Well, as it turns out, a bunch of my fiction (and poetry) was not on my hard drive. Evidently, it was on a floppy disk. And yes, I know. Floppy disks = medieval times. But I was on my aunt and uncle's old computer.

So I've spent the better part of an hour tearing my apartment apart, trying to find my folder with hard copies of all my writing. No luck. I have no idea what box I put it in, or if it might be in my car for some reason. I have enough saved on my comp to take with tomorrow, but I'm still cranky about it, because one of my favorite pieces is in that folder, and it's ready to go out. Ugh.

It's looking like I'm not going to get much sleep tonight. I just can't seem to get onto a normal sleeping schedule. It's like I can't shut my brain off. At least I'm writing (now that my fussy computer has decided to finish updating). I'm toying with jumping in the shower now, so I'll have an extra few minutes sleep tomorrow morning.

Jessica and I are probably going to a movie at the dollar theater tomorrow. We're both broke, so no fancy new movies for us, lol.

It's 4 in the morning, and my house looks like WWIII, but I freaking found the hard copies of my fiction!!!

EDIT: I'm still missing the two pieces I needed the most. *kicks furniture* I have old, unrevised copies of both, but that means I'll have to rewrite both of them.

An update

Today was a good day.

I got up at 9, after only two hours of sleep, and I met Kelley, Jessica, and Charity to discuss our writing. It was extremely productive, and I think I've got a couple of things ready for the envelope. Yayz!

After the meeting, Jessica and I took Kelley home, then we went to Cici's and to see Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which was surprisingly funny, though I could have done without some of the crude sexual humor. I mean, how many times did I need to see Jason Segal's package?

We're thinking of going to see Get Smart when it hits the dollar theater. It looked funny anyway, but when I saw that the Rock is in it, I was like, "Yeah, I want to see it." The Rock is one of my celebrity crushes.

We're all thinking of going to the McKinley Museum in a couple of weeks. I haven't been there since last year, so I'm excited to go. It's quite beautiful there.

I'm actually really pleased that I've managed to stay up and be productive with this little sleep. Hopefully, I'll be able to crash and sleep at night.

Also, I just found out I'm teaching a summer class!

I think I'm going to turn in early, but before I crash for the night, I leave you with a multi-fandom friending meme.
