Lorne the Little Black Dress
Apr. 13th, 2008 03:05 pmBlame this post on my boredom as I wait for my dinner to cook, or on the mush my brain is turning to after grading a stack of essays.
I'm of a mind that every fandom has a Little Black Dress, a character that ships well with almost everyone. In Stargate: SG-1 that character is Daniel Jackson. In Heroes, it's Mohinder. In Stargate: Atlantis, I think it's Major Evan Lorne.
I do tend to ship Lorne with Teyla more than anyone. But you know what? I can ship the guy with everyone from Sheppard to McKay to Ronon to some random guy off the Daedalus. He just goes well with everyone! It must be the dimples.

1. Incorrect spelling of the characters' names. For example, CSI has been on for a while now, so the news that Sara does not spell her name "Sarah" should be pretty widespread by now. When in doubt, look it up.
2. Twelve-year-old girl Daniel Jackson or Ianto Jones or other character.. Most fandoms seem to have that one male character who is consistently portrayed by fic writers as an emotional basket case who is vacillates between self-mutilation, eating disorders, or plain old stomping off or door slamming. Yes, they're sensitive, but they're also strong and intelligent men.
3. Overuse of epithets. How many times have I read a fic where Jack and Daniel as "the older man" and "the younger man" over and over and over again, when they could have just been called "Jack" and "Daniel."
There are others, but I have to put my pizza in the oven before I drop over from hunger.
