Ever use one of those self-checkouts in the store? Every time I use one, I get behind someone who either doesn't know how to work it, or has picked up the one item in the store that won't scan.

Fading memories

I think I might drive up to my old hometown in a week or two. I've been wracking my brains to remember this restaurant my mom and I used to go to when I was a kid. It was actually a restaurant for railroaders, but townspeople could also eat there. Or maybe we could eat there because my dad was a railroader. We used to have breakfast and watch the men come and go, check in and check out, complain about their jobs. I can picture the place, the food, the men getting ready to go to work... But I can't remember what they called the place, and from the looks of the Chamber of Commerce page for the town, it doesn't seem to be open to the public anymore. I don't want to ask my mom, because she gets weepy when we talk about the past.

So I'm probably going to drive almost two hours to park in front of the building and see if it jogs my memory.

Of course, I have family there, so I can visit them, too.
