Bugs Freak Me the Heck Out
Jul. 17th, 2006 01:19 amOne thing I really dislike about living in Wisconsin is the bugs. Back in Ohio, the most I had to contend with were ants or a rogue fly that got into the house.
Here, I encounter big-ass freaky bugs. In my mind, bugs = unclean. So I really don't like seeing bugs at all. But living so close to the lake, we seem to get bizarre (And big. Don't forget big.) bugs like centipedes.
I've seen almost no bugs this year (thank God). I got comfortable with the dearth of bugs. Well, I was crashed on the couch earlier and saw a big bug ON THE COUCH. I jumped up like a girl and ran to get something to smash the bug. By the time I returned, the bug, apparently guessing my plans, had scurried into a hiding place. I retired to the computer to work on my thesis (and hide from the bug).
Finally, Dead Zone came on, and I braved the couch again. I grabbed a Mike's Hard Lemonade and flipped on the television. When I walked over to turn off the light, I saw the bug. This time, I got him!
I don't think it was a centipede. It might have been a really BIG ant. I'm not sure, because it's currently squashed underneath a copy of Journal of Diplomatic History and a copy of Annie Proulx's Close Range.
